Community Support

J. J. Hilsinger and the Water Tower Inn

J.J. Hilsinger and the Water Tower Inn have been our greatest supporters. They have contributed funds to build a fence around a school in a Masai village to keep the animals out. They have bought goats and supplied soaps for the feminine hygiene kits as well as given funds to purchase school supplies and text books. J.J. also committed to donating funds from the Water Tower Inn to cover a new classroom in the Mathare Slum Community Outreach School.

We have had many events at the Water Tower Inn including Kenyan dinners and Pub Nights all offered at a special rate.

The Water Tower Inn also sold gift cards and gave 50% of the proceeds to The United Way’s Food Security Program and to Tumaini Afrika!

J.J. has now sold the Water Tower Inn, but with his encouragement, the new owners have agreed to continue working with us.

We are so grateful to J.J. and the Water Tower for their overwhelming support of the kids in Kenya!

Local Schools

With the support of school staff, Northern Heights PS, Korah Collegiate, E.S. Notre Dame du Sault, Superior Heights Collegiate, H.M. Robbins PS and St. Marys College students have all held fundraisers to support our work.

Art students at St. Mary’s, under the direction of Adriano DiCerbo, present an art exhibition each year which raises significant funds for donation to Tumaini Afrika.

Additionally, Robbins, Northern Heights, Tarentorus, Pinewood, St Basils and ES Notre Dame du Sault students have been penpalling with the kids at Compass School, Namuncha, and Mathare Schools.

The Retired Teachers of Ontario

RTO offered our local Algoma RTO-ERO group a grant through the program Service To Others to assist in Kenya! Funds were used to provide a water tank for a Namuncha school as well as food and supplies for a lunch program at Compass School.

The Community

So many friends of Tumaini Afrika continue to support our projects and fundraisers by giving donations, attending events, purchasing items at our sales and encouraging us to continue our work to benefit children in Kenya!

A number of local churches and service clubs have also donated to TA when our members have presented on our work.

Students must pay to attend school in Kenya. They are required to have a school uniform as well as textbooks and school supplies. If the family has no money the child cannot attend school. Although Tumaini Afrika deals only with helping large groups of children, many of its members and some of their friends sponsor needy students. If you and/or some of your friends are interested in sponsoring a child to attend school, please contact us for further information.

Asante sana (thank you very much) to all of our supporters!

We could not do what we do without your ongoing support!
